Both continuing rarities in Claremont were very cooperative this morning. The OVENBIRD at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden was walking around in the open at a location just west of the coordinates that have been posted previously. This is in the "Communities" section of the gardens north of Indian Hill Mesa, along a small unpaved path that has interpretive signs for "California's Rarest Plants". The CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER is still in the neighborhood a block west of Wheeler Park. We first found it in the oak tree adjacent to 645 Geneva (described earlier in the week by Tom Miko), and then followed it as it moved a few houses south, where it stopped to spend some time foraging close to the ground in a short bamboo hedge. It's easy to locate by its sharp chip call. Good birding, Cathy McFadden & Paul Clarke Claremont
