The Harrisís Sparrow originally found by visiting birder Stavros Christodoulides on 7 April at the Hansen Dam fishing/boating lake continued this morning (13 April) when it was refound by Chris Dean around 8:30. It was not in the open lawn
area with scattered trees and picnic tables at the north end of the fishing lake, its original spot, but rather a hundred meters or so to the southwest, on the slope with pyracantha and other shrubs under the eucalyptus trees, Specifically, it was just west
of the round beige tank with wooden slat fencing around it, near the junction of the two paved parking lots. It was with 3-4 White-crowned Sparrows, and sang (a partial song) a few times.
For those unfamiliar with Hansen Dam, this spot is reached by taking Dronfield Ave. off Osborne St. to the T-intersection inside the park; turn left (north) at the T, and then right at the end into the fishing lake, swimming pool area.
The bird was at the ne. corner of the first parking lot you come to on the left (look for the fenced tank ), but its original spot last Saturday was farther north, in the park area at the nw. side of the fishing/boating lake.
Otherwise, things were fairly standard during my relatively brief visit to the other end of the park (at the sports center). Still just a few Bellís Vireos, and I havenít encountered a Blue Grosbeak or Y-b Chat yet. The winds were fairly
strong out of the north, but so far no repeat of last yearís spectacular migration movement during strong late April Santa Ana winds.
